Getting Lost

rbee00 What an excellent group of songs! Lyrics range from earnest to wry, tongue-in-cheek observation that is both funny and seriously insightful for our times. There is an abundance of shrewd, memorable lines. The music exhibits influence of The Beatles, Dylan, Autry/Rodgers, even a reminder or two of A3’s more traditional songs. Kearns’ voice is strong and travels all over, even some adventurous yodels work well. People need to know about this record—the world would be a better place if they did.

Emptying out another bottle Pulling hard on the throttle That’s life… or living hard Toeing the line and paying the bills Deadlines have my calendar filled In the end we’re all staring at stars If living don’t kill us I don’t know what will Eating veggies and staying in shape Then using plastic everyday Let’s drink some beer and eat some cake We’ve got some living to do, you and me Crashing a car or taking a plane Drinking water or snorting cocaine In the end we all get just as far You don’t do drugs but you do take pills Are you going out early or getting over the hill You never know when your numbers up If living don’t kill us I don’t know what will If living don’t kill us I don’t know what will

There’s so much static on the AM Sometimes it’s hard to dial in I don’t think it’s my imagination I’m almost sure that’s you singing Cutting through the distortion Cutting through the urban din Straight through my heart like an arrow When I hear you on the radio When the sun sets on a new moon The signal is crystal clear Turn up the volume on the radio Pour a glass and I’ll pull you near Cutting through the distortion Cutting through the evening news Straight through your heart like an arrow When music’s on the radio

A man has got to be heading nowhere If he don’t know where he’s been I know I’m from California But I don’t know since when Saddle up! We gotta go get getting on with it We all go somewhere anyhow Why I ever left California I’ve forgotten it now This beautiful loser is on the rebound What was once lost is now found What was once lost is now found This beautiful loser is on the rebound You walk by and I wish I’d known ya But you didn’t see me from the door Nobody wants to go unnoticed But I don’t care anymore When I get back to Caledonia I’m gonna sing for my room and board And by then I’ll have forgotten About you and that door This beautiful loser is on the rebound What was once lost is now found What was once lost is now found This beautiful loser is on the rebound

You see the upside I see the downside The truth lies in the middle Some see life as a slide Others say it’s a long climb Still others think it’s a riddle Over the long haul Pounding heads against the wall In a tug-of-war getting nothing done While the idealogues Argue digital or analog Forgetting what songs are really for Let’s all meet up around the middle Let’s be patient and not so brittle Let’s all try at least a little Let’s all get along, do what needs getting done La la la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la You’re from the East Side I’m from the West Side And she’s from up north He’s from the South Side And we’re all on the outside When a voice is all we’re asking for We’re all different just like you And with each passing day we’re all a little different too Look at the problem at hand Move it forward, let’s make a plan Let’s all meet up around the middle Let’s be patient and not so brittle Let’s all try at least a little Let’s all get along, do what needs getting done Let’s all get along, do what needs getting done La la la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la

Fly by night, money’s tight, get behind the wrong side of the wheel Don’t get down, we’ll turn it around, we always do There’s a place for everything and everything has its spot Don’t worry if we break down or we make it or not Even a good American truck can let you down If you don’t watch your wheels, they could stop going ‘round Round and round… keep your wheels going ‘round Round and round… keep your wheels going ‘round Have you seen your own dreams ever come true? They don’t look much like your dreams when they do Even a good American truck can let you down If you don’t watch your wheels, they could stop going ‘round Round and round… keep your wheels going ‘round Round and round… keep your wheels going ‘round Round and round… keep your wheels going ‘round Round and round… keep your wheels going ‘round

Yodelay-he-he, yip-yip yi ay Way out on the edge of town Where trouble’s always hanging ‘round Laying low so I won’t be found Hiding out on the edge of town Past the last station on the highway side Out by the sign that says, “No services 99 miles” Way out on the edge of town Beyond the dump and the ol’ dog pound It’s the first stop when you’re ramblin’ ‘round Way out on the edge of town Past the last station on the highway side Out by the sign that says, “No services 99 miles” Past the cows, the barn, the old milk farm Down the road by the wrecking yard Take the covered bridge, get out of the car Let’s get lost finding out who we are Past the last station on the highway side Out by the sign that says, “No services 99 miles” It’s too dangerous for even freedom to hitch a ride We’re out in the cold instead of where it’s warm inside Yodelay-he-he, yip-yip yi ay

It’s a long, long way to Memphis But I’m a long, long way from home I don’t know if I’ll ever get back But I’m sure glad we’re here right now We’re watching shadows growing long Knowing at sunrise we are gone I don’t know if I’ll ever get back The road goes on and on and on and on In a short time the sunlight will be gone Last of the golden rays until the dawn In a short time the sunlight will be gone Last of the golden rays until the dawn It’s a long long way to Joshua Tree And I’ve been away for far too long I’d give anything to be back home But until then I’ve got time for one more song I’ve got time for one more song In a short time the sunlight will be gone Last of the golden rays until the dawn In a short time the sunlight will be gone Last of the golden rays until the dawn

A good love song is hard to write Trying has kept me up many nights I can’t find words to say what’s on my mind To describe something common that’s hard to find You search everywhere and it’s usually staring You directly in the eyes A good love song is hard to write To understand it takes your whole life At first it’s dancing and drinking red wine Blue skies and golden sunshine But after years together through all kinds of weather We’re both stronger for the ride For you I will always leave the light on For you my love burns deep inside I won’t keep you in a cage I’ll set you free and watch you fly away A good love song is hard to write Words and melody, to get it right Real love is overwhelming Real love leaves me tongue tied I know when it’s here, when you are near my dear I love you more with passing time A good love song is hard to write
